My friend was an amateur bodybuilder. Starting in late March or early April, he would start seriously dieting. This would involve him eating every 3 hours a black cold chicken breast and a few almonds or walnuts or a milky white protein powder drink. He ate zero carbs during the day. He did this religiously for about 12 – 16 weeks.
One time I asked him for diet advice because I was trying to get in better shape after the post College – sit at a desk all day lifestyle started to get the better of me. He visibly grimaced and clammed up. And this dude was not shy! We broke each others stones every chance we got. But this topic was, to him, almost off limits. But after I peppered him with a few questions and gave him a hard time about keeping all the knowledge to himself, he opened up. But he started his advice with this warning.
“Look dude. I’m not telling you I’m an expert. And I’m not telling you I’m right. This is just what I do. Are there other ways to do it? Absolutely. But this is the way I do it. So I’ll give you my process, what I do, and how you could adapt it to your goals. But it’s completely up to you if you do it or not. It doesn’t bother me in the least. I’m telling you this because I’ve done this for other people, and they start arguing with me why this way is better or what I do is wrong. I don’t want to hear any of that shit. You ask me what I do. I’ll tell you. But it’s not a recommendation. You decide for yourself if you want to incorporate my stuff or not.”
Apparently, dieting strategies is a topic that is right up there with politics and religion in it’s ability to generate irrational, emotional and violent disagreements and hurt feelings. In some communities, it’s even higher! And while personal finance and investing probably isn’t that high on the scale, it might be just a hair below!
So this is my disclaimer.

Use my strategies or don’t. Take them and use them exactly as I do, or adjust them and adapt them to your unique situations. Or don’t. It’s entirely up to you.
I do enjoy a healthy discussion and part of what I want to do is engage other people who might have constructive criticism of my methods, thoughts, beliefs or practices. So argue with me. Debate me. Even yell at me, because I’m pretty thick skinned. I wanna hear what you think of what I do.
